7 Steps to Moving into Your New Home

Moving can be a tedious process. It’s especially hard, until it’s time to move.

Here are 7 easy steps to making the process bearable.

  • Set a date. We’ve already established that moving can be unpleasant. This could lead to putting off the move until it’s late. Setting a date helps you plan effectively, and minimize the risk of losing important items due to rushing.

  • Get boxes and label them. This is very important when moving. Having labeled boxes makes it easy to pack and unpack items at your destination. It also enables the movers arrange the boxes accordingly when they arrive. This alone ensures you know where to find whatever you’re looking for at your new home.

  • Declutter. When you’ve lived in a place for a while, you tend to gather a lot of items which over time could become old or unneeded. Such items are usually found in our storage areas. When moving, you don’t have to move your entire storage. Take time to sift through all you have stashed away in there and pick out what should be taken along or given away.

  • Proof wrap fragile items. Every home has items that require special care when packing. You need to carefully wrap these items in pieces of cloth or paper to prevent damage, and put them in specially marked boxes. This makes them easily identifiable and alerts the movers to their content.

  • Call the movers. Now that you’ve gotten the personal aspects of moving out of the way, this would be a good time to call the movers and fix a moving date with them. It is important to do this early, especially if you’re moving to a different state. There are a lot of factors to consider, so contacting the movers early helps factor in every possible eventuality in the planning.

  • Box and seal. This is usually done very close to the moving date. It is advisable to do this at least three days to the date, to prevent having too many items still lying around when the movers arrive. Box everything not in immediate use and seal the labeled boxes, leaving just the daily essentials for last.

  • When the movers arrive, go over the house once again and ensure that all you need are properly boxed away and labeled. This is the point where a lot of important items are left behind. You can do this before they arrive, to avoid being distracted, and collar all stray stuff still lying around.

Once all these steps are carefully completed, you can be sure that your move will be successful and satisfying.
